A HOME FOR KING KONG & FRIENDS
In a first time collaboration with The Creature Technology Company, KOJO set out to create a digital showcase featuring the innovative company’s iconic animatronic creations; such as the world famous King Kong, Walking with Dinosaurs – The Arena Spectacular and the giant mascots for the 2014 Winter Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
“We were looking for a website that would exemplify the innovation of The Creature Technology Company in its design – and KOJO delivered.” Creature Technology Company Commercial Director, Mr Tim Rolfe said.
The design and development process was derived from an organic relationship with the brand, the team members and being privy to the creative execution employed in giving these creatures ‘life’. From the initial concept through to deployment, KOJO wanted to ensure they had a deep understanding of the company’s complexity, the vast amount of unique skill sets involved, the workspace and sheer scale of projects.
“Bringing the on stage experience into an online environment was our initial goal, but after visiting their design studio we found the story of their artists equally compelling. Their process, dedication to craft, and creativity is something to be behold, and thankfully through this site we are able to give a glimpse into their world”, National Creative Director Mike Wilson said.
After seeing the role ‘light’ played in the live stage performances, KOJO designer Phil Moule replicated this technique bringing a similar effect into the online experience through the implementation of a JQuery full screen homepage slider that enables users to play with the very same ‘searchlight’ reveal functionality.
“On stage the lighting enhances the storytelling, so we’ve taken a cue from this and enabled visitors online to control the ‘lighting’ through their cursor.”, said Moule.
With an emphasis placed on the visually beautiful, the entire site is driven by rich imagery including full screen video backgrounds and immersive photo galleries. A full screen slider is featured on the homepage allowing users to scroll through the menu and individual project stories. Similarly, the sites responsive nature means that all content presented is optimised across all viewing devices, meaning the site is accessible from anywhere at any time.
